- Silica sand and gravel for water filtration
Silica sand and gravel
Silica sand and gravel are mineral filtration media obtained from natural deposits and selected for their high hardness, mechanical resistance and chemical stability. They are used in desalination, drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment.
What are sand and gravel used for in water treatment?
Washing and particle-size classification produce high-quality filtration media. Sand supports suspended-solids retention and turbidity reduction, while gravel supports the filtration bed and helps distribute water evenly.
Answers to your questions about sand and gravel
Which silica sand particle sizes are available?
A broad range from 0.5 to 5 mm, classified by particle size.
What is the purpose of gravel in a filter?
It acts as a support bed: it holds filtration media such as anthracite, zeolite or sand and distributes the backwash flow evenly.
What is the silica content of the sand?
More than 98% SiO₂.
Which standards do the sand and gravel comply with?
EN 12904, ANSI and AWWA B100 for the treatment of water intended for human consumption, with NSF certification.

We are a B Corp company
B Corp certification independently assesses a company’s environmental and social performance, transparency and legal accountability. For us, it is more than a label: it provides a framework for our technical decisions. Every plant we design is also assessed for its energy consumption, the water footprint it helps reduce and its impact where it is installed.
