Garnet
Garnet is a high-density mineral with excellent hardness and mechanical resistance. It is used in desalination and drinking water treatment. Its high density makes it suitable as the bottom layer in multimedia filters.
What is garnet used for in water treatment?
Its high density makes garnet suitable as the bottom layer in filtration beds. It is particularly suitable for treating water containing metals. It remains stable during backwashing, helping improve water quality and filtration-system performance.
Answers to your questions about garnet
What is garnet used for as a filtration medium?
It retains fine particles in the lower layer of the bed, taking advantage of its high density. It is particularly suitable for water containing metals.
Why is it combined with anthracite?
The difference in density means that each medium returns to its position after backwashing: anthracite at the top and garnet at the bottom. Water therefore passes from coarse to fine grains and particle retention is distributed throughout the bed.
Which standards does KEIKEN garnet comply with?
EN 12910 and AWWA B100, with NSF 61 certification.
Which applications use garnet?
Drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment and industrial effluent treatment.
Can it be used in a single-media filter?
Yes. It is recommended in dual-media beds with anthracite, but it also works in single-media filters.
Which packaging formats are available?
It is supplied in 1 m³ big bags and 25 kg bags.

We are a B Corp company
B Corp certification independently assesses a company’s environmental and social performance, transparency and legal accountability. For us, it is more than a label: it provides a framework for our technical decisions. Every plant we design is also assessed for its energy consumption, the water footprint it helps reduce and its impact where it is installed.
