The project
Al Khobar 2 is a reverse osmosis desalination plant on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia. At 630,000 m³/day, it is among the largest SWRO facilities built in a single phase and can meet the demand of around four million people.
KEIKEN supplied anthracite for the filtration stage of the pretreatment. On projects of this scale, consistent particle size, density and impurity content is essential to maintain uniform performance across multiple filters.
The project was delivered for SWCC by a consortium including ACCIONA and RTCC. The plant reached full production in 2023, with a capacity of 630,000 m³/day.
