Solar power is only available during the day, and wind power only when wind speeds are suitable; above about 25 m\/s or below about 4 m\/s, turbines cannot generate, as high winds could damage the equipment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Batteries store the energy generated so it can be used at any time, even at night or when there is not enough wind.<\/strong> They can charge during generation peaks, when output is not being used, and discharge during consumption peaks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Renewable generation, a suitable climate and energy storage together drive the transition towards self-consumption.<\/strong> These systems can also provide a continuous, secure and sustainable energy supply in areas with frequent power cuts or poor access to energy.
